AJ Massengale

Coach AJ Massengale is a lifelong athlete and experienced coach who has spent decades developing athletes both on and off the field. His coaching career began as a senior in high school coaching a Babe Ruth Baseball Team in Groton and continued through college coaching baseball in New London and youth football in New Haven.

In 2003, AJ began coaching Stonington High School Football as an assistant coach before becoming Head Coach in 2004, a position he held for 22 years. During his time at SHS, he also assisted with softball, baseball, golf, and unified sports and coached boys youth lacrosse in Stonington for nearly a decade.

Coach AJ’s philosophy centers on helping athletes reach their fullest potential through discipline, accountability, consistency, and hard work. In the weight room, he emphasizes proper form, technique, recovery, and nutrition, often reminding athletes that “you can’t outwork a bad diet.” His training approach is rooted in building functional strength—creating bodies that are strong, capable, durable, and prepared for both sport and everyday life.

Coach AJ also supports BESPOKE’s open water swim programs by assisting swimmers from a paddle board, offering guidance, encouragement, safety support, and confidence in the water.

He believes growth happens when athletes embrace challenges, step outside their comfort zones, and commit to doing hard things.

As a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, he works with individuals of all ages, helping them build strength, improve performance, and create sustainable healthy habits.

Training with Coach AJ means structure, accountability, and a coach who knows how to develop athletes the right way. His programs are designed to challenge and elevate, and this summer offers a unique opportunity to train directly under a coach with over two decades of proven leadership and results.
